Protecting Medicare and American Farmers from Sequester Cuts Act

On December 9, Congress passed the Protecting Medicare and American Farmers from Sequester Cuts Act. While OEIS is supportive of the broader efforts undertaken by many within organized medicine to prevent some of the across the board cuts relating to the conversion factor and sequestration, OEIS continues to fight to mitigate the huge Clinical Labor cuts finalized in the 2022 Physician Fee Schedule. When fully implemented in 4 years, the Clinical Labor cuts would result in reductions of 20% and more in physician reimbursement to a broad range of office-based specialists, including endovascular and interventional services. Our leadership strongly believes that the threat of those cuts to the sustainability of our services requires distinct and sustained opposition on behalf of our members, especially in the context of the highest inflation in 39 years.

In order to address the Clinical Labor cuts, over the past few months OEIS has helped to lead on Congressional letters to CMS, Congressional letters to leadership in the House of Representatives, and the introduction of legislation, H.R. 6048, the Medicare Stability for Patients and Providers Act.

OEIS leadership is committed to continuing this multi-pronged approach to seeking relief for office-based specialists and will we seek further relief on the Clinical Labor cuts in legislation set to move in the Congress in February.
